On this occasion Dr. Pankaj Pathak, Founder 'Health Cause India' wish to congratulate all the recipient of this award and specially Dr. Mohammed Faruq who is proud resident of Pali district, Rajasthan. He has completed his MBBs from Kerala and highest research degree from AIIMS, New Delhi. " Currently, Dr. Mohammed Faruq, a Senior Scientist from the Genomics and Molecular Medicine division, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi has been announced as recipient of the prestigious CSIR Young Scientist award for the year 2015.
The award was conferred on him in recognition of his demonstrated contribution to the applicability of exome sequencing in clinical setting to identify novel mutations in familial hereditary disorders. Dr. Faruq with the unique combination of his clinical background and research using state-of-art genomics tools in the area of spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA; A neurodegenerative disorder), has not only discovered novel molecular etiologies by exome sequencing, but also implemented this knowledge at the clinics at AIIMS, New Delhi to ensure the appropriate clinical care, genetic counseling and prognostic assessment of patients. His work directly impacts the establishment of a diagnostic panel and diagnostic paradigm in clinical settings for SCAs. The exome sequencing done by the candidate represents India’s first published report of clinical sequencing.Apart from his fundamental research on ataxia Dr. Faruq has contributed tothegenomics research for diagnostics at National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore and National Brain Research Centre, Manesar and tertiary care hospitals Neuropathology-AIIMS, Pediatric Genetic unit-Maulana Azad Medical College and Neurology department-GB Pant hospital, reflected in his various published work."
